Walt Disney World - Orlando

Epcot Center

As we already visited The Magic Kingdom in Los Angeles (California), when visiting Florida we focussed on Epcot Center (1991) and MGM Studios (1996).

The World Showcase within the Epcot Center presented us with the fascinating traditions and cultures of people from around the world. Very entertaining, although certain elements are exagerated slighty to make it more interesting.

Disney MGM Studios (nu/now Disney Hollywood Studios)

On January 7, 2008, Disney-MGM Studios became Disney's Hollywood Studios. Despite the “MGM” in the park's name, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer had no part in designing, owning, or operating Disney-MGM Studios. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer simply collected a licensing fee from The Walt Disney Company.

Spanning 135 acres (55 ha), the park is dedicated to the facets of show business, including film, television, music, and theatre, drawing inspiration from the heyday of Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s.

At the time of our visit attractions were based on Jaws, Indiana Jones and Waterworld. The attractions and lay-out as per 1998 during our visit, have been replaced in the meantime completely with the termination of the Great Movie Ride in 2017.

"Jumping Waters"

"Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" (EPCOT).

Walt Disney World was called 'Project Florida' when first being developed by Walt Disney in the 1960s. The park covers 27,258 acres (43 sq mi; 110 km2) and includes aninclude an "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" (EPCOT) according the plan. Magic Kingdom was the first theme park to open in the complex, in 1971, followed by Epcot in 1982, Disney's Hollywood Studios (MGM) in 1989. Two years after our last visit in 1996 Disney's Animal Kingdom was added.
